The Community Kindness Movement Inc. is a Non-Profit Organization established in 2015, with a Community and School Initiative. We collaborate with City Government, School Districts, Faith groups, non-profits, local business, youth groups, organizations, and like-minded individuals to come together to celebrate and inspire kindness throughout our communities. With community support of public funds, we are able to offer an annual School Kindness Program that benefits our children in Elementary and Secondary Education. Our Kindness shirts are worn each Thursday and remind us of the commitment we made to be “Models of Kindness” throughout the year.
OUR STORY
The CKM was founded in 2015 by the Nelson family. It evolved from their own child dealing with bullying and how their family chose to perform acts of kindness, hoping that it would encourage a change of heart. Their family sent twenty-six single yellow roses into the school to several students and teachers anonymously. The bullying diminished. The yellow roses inspired the bright yellow Kindness t-shirts and advocacy that Kindness is a powerful answer to Bullying and Suicide Prevention.
The CKM started in Pocatello, Idaho, where our first Community Kindness Week was proclaimed, celebrated, and is still celebrated today. In 2018 and 2019, the CKM has partnered with the City of Meridian, in proclaiming Meridian Idaho’s Community Kindness Week and partnering with West Ada School District. And in 2019, Governor Brad Little proclaimed the first IDAHO COMMUNTIY KINDNESS WEEK for the CKM! We continue to go and in 2020 we would like to extend past Idaho and encourage all state to join in with us!
Kick off the school year right by celebrating a Community Kindness Week with us! This also starts the beginning our of annual Kindness Begins With Me Program in the schools. The movement started 2015 and continues to be celebrated annually, the third week in September. It’s even more amazing when an entire community their schools can come together the same week to join in a movement of compassion.
The Community Kindness Movement is all about joining in a movement and inspiring world changers. To go along with our Community Kindness Week, we have filmed a Kindness Video for schools to show to kick off the week. It show examples of how students can participate in the acts of kindness challanges. Our school film includes students from all grade levels (K-12). The video is available to all participating schools. We have a 2015 video filmed in Pocatello, Idaho and we have a 2018 video that was filmed in Meridian, Idaho.
In 2019, the CKM wanted to film a Community Kindness video. This video is lauched on our social sites to share during Kindness Week. It too, show ways to preform the Acts of Kindness Challenges in your community during CKW. This film was also filmed in Meridian, Idaho, by local volunteers.
The #YELLOW Kindness shirts are distributed the week before our Community Kindness Week in September. The Kindness shirts are worn throughout the year on Thursdays. Our Kindness shirt is not just another school shirt, it is one of the most important visual learning tools used in our program and provides and very important message. Each year, we announce a new design. Through local business sponsors, parent donations, PTO / PTA funds, school grants, etc. the shirts are purchased for schools – every student and faculty member. Our shirt resembles a telling story that inspires commUNITY. Our message is that every child matters and each can aspire to be a world changer out on the playground, in their home, friendship circles, online, and out in their communities.
The CKM celebrates Kindness every Thursday. Schools gain access through to our Kindness Program that has a monthly kindness theme, discussion, and lesson plans for teachers to facilitate in their classrooms.
In 2023, Joey Acosta (Joey Forte) wrote the CKM their very own KINDESS BEGINS WITH ME theme song. We are so excited to share this with kids during our Kindness Assemblies.
